Catch everyone when attempting to exchange 100 dollars: Ukrainians warned about possible troubles.

Ukraine is facing the problem of an increasing number of counterfeit dollar bills. The National Bank reported that criminals have managed to forge 3.4 counterfeit bills for every million genuine ones, which is three times more than before.
Although the situation has improved compared to previous years, when 7.1 fake banknotes were detected per million, experts urge citizens to be more cautious, especially when exchanging at non-bank institutions.
Criminals most often counterfeit 100-dollar bills
The NBU emphasizes that the highest risk of receiving counterfeit money exists in markets, train stations, and street points. Currently, there are two series of hundred-dollar bills in circulation, differing in the year of issue and security features.
How to detect counterfeit: signs of a genuine bill
A genuine bill has the following signs:
- Watermark visible when held up to the light
- Holographic ribbon (starting from 2013)
- Color-shifting feature for new bills
- High-quality paper with a textured feel
- Microtext on the edge of the bill
Experts advise exchanging money only at official institutions, where they have the necessary equipment to verify currency.
According to data from the National Bank of Ukraine, the increase in the number of counterfeit dollar bills in circulation is a serious problem. Although the situation is better than before, the danger still exists, so citizens must be attentive and cautious when conducting currency transactions. Genuine bills have their distinctive features that can be easily checked, so it is important to rely on them when receiving or exchanging money.Read also
