Ukrainian Poet and Dissident Ihor Kalynets Has Died.


Ihor Kalynets, a well-known dissident and poet, passed away in Lviv on June 28 at the age of 85. His daughter Dzyvyslava Kalynets-Mamchur announced this on Facebook.
Ihor Kalynets was born in 1939 in Chodoriv, Lviv region. He was a member of the dissident movement in Ukraine, working in a local archive and library. During the Sixties movement, Kalynets was imprisoned and exiled. Afterward, he stopped writing poetry but continued to publish children's books and edit magazines.
“Ihor Kalynets is the author of seventeen poetry collections written between the mid-sixties and 1981. After returning from exile, he stopped writing poetry but published children's collections and edited several magazines. He was the recipient of numerous awards and honors,”
Ihor Kalynets will be remembered as a talented poet and prominent figure whose contribution to Ukrainian culture and literature is significant. His death is a great loss. At the same Time, other notable figures passed away, including former Odesa mayor Ruslan Bodelan and Ukrainian MP Yuriy Hnatkevych.
