Macron and Putin held their first conversation in 3 years: the French president called for a ceasefire in Ukraine.


The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, held his first phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in nearly three years, during which he called for an immediate end to military actions in Ukraine.
According to the Elysee Palace's statement, which was quoted by BFMTV, the French president emphasized France's unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity during his conversation with Putin. Macron also called for a swift establishment of a ceasefire and the start of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to achieve a lasting and durable resolution to the conflict.
Kremlin representatives described the talks as having a 'substantial character'. The Russian side confirmed that the leaders discussed both the situation in the Middle East and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Dialogue between Macron and Putin
The previous conversation between Macron and Putin took place on September 11, 2022. Over the past year, the French president has repeatedly suggested the possibility of renewing dialogue with the Russian leader.
As a result of the conversation, Macron urged Putin to end the war in Ukraine and to activate the process of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a sustainable resolution of the conflict. This step reflects France's intention to support Ukraine's territorial integrity and strengthen international security in the region.
As a result of the phone conversation between the President of France and the Russian leader, Macron called on Putin to immediately cease military actions in Ukraine and to activate negotiations to achieve a lasting resolution of the conflict.
