Afghanistan offered Russia to hold a match at the stadium where the Taliban executed public executions.

The Russian national team refused to play against the Afghanistan team in Kabul. The invitation was rejected by the Russian Football Union (RFS). 'By the end of the year, our team will have three matches, all of them will take place in Russia. The names of potential opponents are not yet known, but work is ongoing,' RFS stated.
The suspension of Russia from international tournaments
After the start of Russian aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian national team and football clubs from the country were suspended from international tournaments. This meant that Russia was not included in the draw for the World Cup qualifiers, and they would not have the opportunity to participate in the final stage of the competitions.
The Russian national team refused to play against the Afghanistan team in Kabul, and the ongoing suspension from international tournaments due to events in Ukraine confirms the influence of political events on the world of sports.
